Gold Medal 2008 Idea Awards

All, I feel honoured to inform all of you of our involvement with the Size China project. As the official industrial sponsor, it has been our privilege to work with Roger Ball to scan the face and head sizes of thousands of Chinese people.

Roger has been involved in helmets when he ran his design firm in Canada, designing such famous helmets as RED Buzzcap / Snowcap. When he came to Hong Kong to teach at the Hong Kong Polytechnic, Roger approached us to sponsor a project to scan Chinese faces and heads. This will create scientific data to allow industries to create items that are better fitting and also more safe products.

We are proud to have been involved in this project and now it has won the Gold Medal for Design Research in the Idea 2008 Awards.

The Perfect Financial Storm - this is the interview by Eunice Yoon that ran on CNN last month. Again, Dr. Cheng, our chairman was interviewed in this story. The RMB continues to appreciate against world currency and combined with rocketing oil prices, China manufacturing is greatly affected.

At Strategic Sports, we have been working hard since November of last year to reduce our work force, yet maintain productivity. We have hired efficiency experts from the USA and work with our production team continuously to look to gain savings. We are limited in material substitutions as we are producing a safety product so meeting safety standards is our top priority so we cannot use a cheaper material but risk unsafe products. And with the world trend against toxic materials as lead and PHA's we are even further restricted in material substitution opportunities.

However, at Strategic Sports, we are making great efforts to export new developments and technologies to reduce costs. We are studying each plastic parts and explore maximizing design and strength, while reducing waste.

Though this financial storm is nothing less than an # 8 typhoon, Strategic is working hard to survive and thrive in today's environment.

Black Rain Alert

For the last week, Dongguan has suffered a massive downpour and Strategic and its staff have been flooded out. We are working hard to minimize the impact on production and shipments. We have moved many of the critical production steps to higher floors. When equipment cannot move, we have built dikes.

So far, thanks for our people's diligent efforts, we have kept up with production schedules and deliveries.

Congratulations to each staff with the top scores of each catagory during the annual test for RD department. Our managing director, Norman Cheng, was very pleased to hand out bonuses to each of them.

Great job! And don't spend all the bonus in one night!
